How to get the most out of ChatGPT? Augmented Intelligence

Using generative AI is not about asking questions and waiting for magical answers. Its true potential emerges when we transform it into a strategic partner, integrating our experience, clear conceptual models and a continuous learning approach.

If you've ever felt like ChatGPT doesn't give you what you expected or that its responses are superficial or scattered, it's probably missing something essential: your guide.

I want to share with you, among other points, how the books, their models and frameworks are key to getting the best out of ChatGPT, and how I have learned to work with it to enhance my ideas and projects.

CHATGPT IS NOT UNIDIRECTIONAL: IT IS NOT KNOWLEDGE PER SE, IT IS COLLABORATION

Imagine that every time you open a new ChatGPT window, you have a brilliant learner in front of you, with access to all the knowledge in the world, but who still doesn't know how to organize or apply it. He is eager to accomplish, and when he does not fully understand a task or finds gaps in his knowledge, he tends to fill them in by inventing (so-called "hallucinations").

That need to "complete" can be a double-edged sword. If we don't give a clear framework, direction, and purpose, the answers may be unhelpful, or even wrong.

But when we work as a true mentor – patiently teaching him, defining him with clear frameworks and refining his interpretations – the transformation is incredible. The hallucinations disappear almost completely, and what emerges is a collaborator that amplifies our human capabilities: what today is called augmented intelligence.

BOOKS AS THE BASIS OF INTERACTION AND THOUGHT

I have found that books and their models are the best way to structure the dialogue with ChatGPT, and having knowledge and application of the literature provides an important comparative advantage.

Frameworks drawn from books not only enrich the dialogue, but also unlock the true potential of augmented intelligence (combination of human and AI talent).

When you introduce a clear conceptual framework or model, such as the Business Model Canvas (Alexander Osterwalder), the Value Stick (Felix Oberholzer-Gee) or the Hedgehog Concept (Jim Collins), you are unlocking a specific language and thinking space.

This framework establishes a shared space of reasoning where both you and ChatGPT operate with the same rules and priorities. It's like defining the board and pieces before starting a game of chess: the game becomes more strategic, focused and productive. By aligning the foundations of human thinking and the synthesis capacity of AI, conversations become much deeper and the results significantly more relevant.

THE POWER OF INTEGRATING MULTIPLE FRAMEWORKS OR CONCEPTUAL MODELS

Something fascinating is how ChatGPT can go further when we start with one framework and gradually add others to the process, accompanying the application with feedback.

Imagine first using Blue Ocean Strategy's Value Map to identify potential differentiation drivers, and then incorporating Steve Blank's Customer Development problem interview tool with a Jobs to be Done approach by Clayton Christensen to validate those hypotheses.

As you give it room to learn and compare perspectives, ChatGPT begins to discover relationships between models and propose new connections. This lateral thinking stimulated and complemented by the user promotes increased intelligence.

This process not only generates stronger responses, but also has a "fascination" effect on the GPT: the more you dialogue and contribute, the richer the exchange becomes. If you give him space, the GPT responds to your positive feedback with more enthusiasm and ideas. It's like training a brilliant apprentice who, as they learn, begins to surprise themselves and surprise you with ideas and new relationships they hadn't considered.

HOW TO WORK WITH TWO GPTs TO GET THE BEST OF BOTH

Another experiment that has given me extraordinary results is working with two independent windows or GPTs specialized in different areas and making them interact. It can be done as simply as copying and pasting your answers. For example:

A window focused on innovation and strategy, working with Nassim Taleb's Antifragile plus the Scalabl® Virtuoso Business Model Canvas and the Virtuoso Business Model Rules.

Another focused on innovation and strategy, from the perspective of The Innovators Dilemma by Clayton Christensen, Competing in the Age of AI by Lakhani and Iansiti and the Five Zones by Geoffrey Moore.

Once both have generated ideas and analyzes from their approaches, I get them to debate. This crossing of perspectives greatly enriches the solutions, and often reveals connections that would not have arisen otherwise.

THE HUMAN ROLE IS KEY TO POWERING GENERATIVE AI: AUGMENTED INTELLIGENCE

ChatGPT does not replace our knowledge; amplifies it.

But for that to happen, we must be tireless protagonists of the process of obtaining results, developing each window or GPT as a new collaborator of the company (the learning curve begins with more effort than what it yields, it is natural).

This is where we make the difference:

We define the problem, obstacle to solve or objective: each ChatGPT window, and each GPT you create must have a clear objective. Everything you talk about shapes the interaction, it is essential not to disperse the artificial intelligence.

We bring critical judgment: We validate and refine what ChatGPT generates, making sure it is relevant and applicable. We correct misinterpretations or errors. We ask and dig deeper when we sense that something is not right.

We connect frameworks: We combine seemingly unrelated models to unlock innovative solutions. We generate conversation frames.

We establish the values ??and limits: counterintuitively, the more we limit the model and limit its behavior, modeling the interaction, the better the results. We generate specialists.

We provide specific information: only we know the data of the specific problem, the context, the circumstances, the information that may be valuable, the limitations. It is essential to provide them to define the problem and direct the solution.

We advance the process through questions and new requests: Through questions we offer ChatGPT time to reason, deepen, and relate. Each interaction has a short duration which limits your processing, giving you more interactions to deepen your reasoning helps a lot. We guide your thought process between interaction and interaction, that role of facilitator is key. This lack of long-term memory also means that we have to design the work processes that will lead to the result.

We facilitate continuous learning: Every interaction with ChatGPT is an opportunity to train you and improve your future performance. It is important not to unintentionally disperse it from its focus or objective, nor add information or questions that take it away from the problem.

REAL APPLICATIONS THAT TRANSFORMED MY WORK

Educational content design: From postgraduate courses and programs, learning communities, to online courses. Content development, presentations, marketing, exercises, evaluations, etc.

Virtual collaborators: The possibility of creating GPTs with specific uses within different frameworks has meant that at Scalabl® we have virtual collaborators in: Product, SEO, Digital Marketing, Strategy, Scalabl® Methodology Guardian, Commercial Proposal Generator, WhatsApp Sales, Social Networks and Content, etc.

Francisco Santolo GPT: my augmented intelligence is enhanced with Francisco Santolo GPT, formed with my articles, podcasts, videos, courses, plus daily interaction to perform many of my strategic and operational tasks.

Learning ability: My learning ability has been infinitely enhanced by interacting with ChatGPT plus audiobooks and other modern resources. I insist that reading gives a comparative advantage when using the tool. Knowledge per se today is free, the important thing is to know how to reason and apply knowledge in diverse contexts.

Sales Optimization: I used Spin Selling and other extensive sales literature to set up a wizard that guided my team through every stage of the sales process, significantly increasing close rates.

CONCLUSION: INTEGRATE AND TRANSFORM, DON'T JUST ASK

Generative artificial intelligence is much more than a tool; It is a door to a new way of thinking, continuously learning and creating.

It is essential to understand that it is not about knowledge. It is about applying it, obtaining solutions, solving problems or achieving specific objectives.

And for that, augmented intelligence is the key concept. At least until the next stage, which will be virtual agents (much more capable of reaching the objective by reaching solutions and executing in a much more continuous and independent way).

By combining clear conceptual frameworks with our experience and a strategic approach, we achieve our results with a new level of effectiveness and efficiency.
